Mounting Bass Traps in Corners

Placing Bass Traps in Upper and Lower Corners

(There Are More Corners Than You Think)

A rectangular room has 12 corners: where walls meet the ceiling (4), where walls meet the floor (4) and the corners where wall-to-wall meet (4).

It’s recommended to start treating the wall-to-wall corners first, but when you consider all available corners, it’s time to look up and down.

GIK Ceiling Corners Example

Bass builds up all corners, so theoretically any corner will benefit from bass trapping.  The more corners that are covered in treatment, the better the low end performance inside a room.  So think about the space above a window or door and consider placing Bass Traps in that area.

Mounting Bass Traps in Upper Corners

Our 244 Bass Traps and Monster Bass Traps are constructed with four eye hooks in the back.  Simply cut the accompanying wire into 4 equal pieces.  Attach a wire to each eye hook then affix the other end to a hook in the ceiling and wall.  Any plant hanger hook that is rated for 20 pounds will work.

Installing a Soffit Bass Trap

The Soffit Bass Trap is perfect for wall-to-ceiling corners or placed horizontal along wall-to-floor corners. Locate the built-in key hole slot on the side of the Soffit Bass Trap with the staples.  Cut the fabric over the key hole slot and use the hardware included to mount to the wall-to-ceiling corner.

Mounting a Tri-Trap Corner Bass Trap

The GIK Acoustics Tri-Trap Corner Bass Trap is intended to be freestanding or stacked floor-to-ceiling.  However, if you wish to mount a Tri-Trap in a wall-to-wall corner, we recommend using L brackets on the side walls so the Tri-Trap sits like a shelf.  The Tri-Trap can also be mounted in the wall-to-ceiling corners using four L brackets: two placed on the ceiling and two placed on the wall to hold the Tri-Trap into place.  See the following examples in composer/producer Mike Plas’s studio. So remember to consider all the corners of your room, and not just the wall-to-wall corners.
